Dand Nach of Western Odisha

Dand Nach or Danda Nrutya is a classical dance dance performed in western region of Odisha (Koshal). The primary aim is to spread social message among people by playing stories of  hindu god “Krishna” and goddess “Radha”.

The Dhol (Sambalpuri Music Instrument) player takes primary role from starting to ending of the program. The other characters are Krishna, Radha, Duti etc.

Now a days this dance is rarely perform as because of less popularity among people. But some people still love this, because its a ancient cultural activity. 

To see the characters on the stage and their performance are heart touching. Each characters always start with “Hari Shree Hari. Aha……”. OMG! I love the most. Dand is not only a dance form its a part of our culture. We should prioritize and encourage the people associated with this to help them and our culture for better future.

On the occasion of “Bali Jatra” or Bael Jatra its must performed in Khinda Village of Sambalpur District. In other many region this is performed and from the decades its entertaining us by spreading social messages.
